Issue #1
Welcome to the issue of a newsletter that offers a take on photography content. What makes it stand out? What hidden gem makes it worth your time?
Let’s get straight to the point; this isn't your camera talk. Set aside the discussions on the lenses, the newest gadgets, or perfecting post-production techniques. No, this isn't about boosting your photography skills with speeches. There are plenty of those there. Instead, why not visit the About Page? A brief but powerful insight into my vision awaits you there—it might just be enough for you to understand our journey together. We are bridging our connection with a few more words.
You're here because you're creative, ambitious, talented, and full of stories waiting to be told through your art. I'm guessing you're already navigating through that path of exploration. Ah, the "path"—a term often spoken about in photography communities with passion yet challenging to pin down and deeply personal. We can relate to it, can't we? The gap between a family photo and a masterpiece by Cartier-Bresson is vast and profound, reflecting the journey of Cartier-Bresson himself. Understanding his path is as straightforward as immersing oneself in his work. However, embarking on your journey is where the true excitement lies.
Picture this: ten years ago, I delved into an ongoing conversation with a friend who shares my passion for photography. Our discussions went beyond equipment chatter, delving into the essence and meaning of our pursuits. We often refer to this shared exploration as "our work", though it feels like play, fulfilling, meaningful and endlessly captivating.
Having spent two decades immersed in the world of photography I've come to realize that my personal creative journey has been a process of seeking, discovering, losing sight and then rediscovering my artistic core. Surprisingly it's through engagement, with photography—capturing moments reflecting on images exchanging ideas with others imparting knowledge through teaching—that my path forward becomes clearer.
Robert Adams once noted that "Academics enjoy disassembling things to understand their workings; artists relish piecing together fragments to create something". This sentiment beautifully captures the essence of exploration that defines our community.
It's all about looking past the aspects and appreciating the creativity that harmoniously blends elements, resulting in something fresh, meaningful, and deeply impactful.
